Run an event
We aim to be a platform for the LGBT+ community. That's why we promote events in each and every borough of the city. Some events are created especially for our Pride Festival, but existing events throughout the year can be adapted too. If your event isn't during 24 June - 9 July 2017, you can still let us know and we may add it to our listings online.
Applications close at the end of April.
1. What are the criteria for inclusion?
All events must:
- Be organised by and/or for the LGBT+ community
- Reflect our values and commitment to diversity, inclusion and accessibility
- Provide a safe space free from prejudice or discrimination, including but not limited to homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, racism, sexism and ableism
- Commit to dealing appropriately with any prejudice expressed by staff, volunteers, performers and/or members of the public at your event
- Comply with all relevant legislation
- Provide all the information we need
- Respond promptly to any questions we have
To be included as part of Pride in London Festival 2017 we ask for a donation or contribution to promote your event. This varies from event to event, so please get in touch to discuss this with us.
Outside of the festival, usually not-for-profit events, community groups and anyone acting in a non-professional capacity (such as activists, sports groups and students) will almost always be listed for free. This also applies to arts and culture, including exhibitions and LGBT+ theatre. Existing for-profit events (such as bars and clubs) will be invited to organise a special Pride event in collaboration with our volunteers. Depending on the size of your event or company, we may ask you to make a financial contribution or participate in fundraising for Pride in London. This is to remain fair to the bars and clubs who support us. Please note that we are much less likely to ask for-profit events aimed at groups who are underrepresented at Pride to make a contribution. These decisions are made entirely at our discretion. We may make some editorial judgements. For example, we may edit the text you send us or request that you provide an alternative image. We must also be satisfied that the event itself will meet the standards outlined above. Please also note that filling in the event form does not guarantee that we will publish your event. Our events listings are independent and we reserve the right to decline events or remove them at any time, particularly if we receive negative feedback.
2. What information do we ask for?
We ask you for:
- The name and contact details of someone who will work with us and answer any questions
- A good quality landscape photo that represents your event. You must have the rights to use this image and tell us who to credit, usually the photographer
- A brief description of your event (two paragraphs at most)
- Date and time
- Full address and phone number for the venue
- Email address (to be made public)
- Social media usernames and hashtags (organiser, event and venue)
- Tags to use for your event (select from our list)
- Accessibility information (see below)
If you wish, we can also include:
- Your logo
- Links to your website or social media accounts
- Any schedule or line-up
3. What are the accessibility requirements?
We include accessibility information as part of all events listings to help us fulfil our commitment to diversity and inclusion. We would strongly encourage you to choose a fully accessible venue. We particularly welcome events that are assistance dog friendly, include BSL interpretation or speech to text facilities. We would further encourage you to consider the needs of our diverse communities, as people’s experiences of Pride can vary depending on their gender, sexuality, romanticism, race, age, religion, disability, financial situation and support networks. Some people will be attending an LGBT+ event for the first time and/or they may be alone. It is important that our events make everyone feel welcome, so we encourage you to set up a meet and greet where possible. We want our events to be open to all genders and sexualities, although we recognise that some events may be aimed at a certain community (e.g. women, families, bisexual people or people of faith). We ask you to explain any restrictions on admission, particularly if your event is not open to all genders and sexualities. Please note that we will not accept events that exclude trans* or genderqueer people. If an event is men or women only, it must be open to all people who self-define as men or women.
