Queer Asia Conference: Bodies X Borders: Day 1 Keynote & Opening

  • SOAS Thornhaugh Street London, England, WC1H 0XG United Kingdom (map)

The third edition of the ‘Queer’ Asia conference brings together academics, activists, policy makers, donors and artists to talk about contemporary challenges facing LGBTI people in Asia and the diaspora. The theme of this year's conference is 'Bodies X Borders.'

As migration, war, and crisis impact queer bodies we ask: how do they move and survive in the numerous and varied Asian contexts? How do race, gender, ability, religion, class/caste impact queer Asian bodies? Can queer bodies transgress (internal and external) borders imposed by politics, economy, science, and religion? How do crises around nationalism and globalisation affect non-normative gender and sexual identities?

The Conference starts with a keynote panel on the evening of 26th June and will continue for the next two days (27 & 28 June from 9AM to 6PM) at SOAS with some partner events at the UCL. The tickets are free and seating is on a first come, first serve basis. Full schedule of the conference is available here:
