Photographic image which has been painted, A3 (11.7 x 16.5 inches)
My pride is a series that explores my personal experience of coming out as a lesbian in my twenties, through the examination of her own life and memories of the times when I hid myself, my personality and sexuality. My pride uses images to document the physical moments, events, belongings and memories of my coming out experience. This series of images combines the photographic image and painted colour to express the emotional, physical and mental pain of hiding who you are.
About the artist
I’m Sophie Armishaw, a graduate photographer student from Falmouth university. Over my years of studying and developing my art practice both in photography and painting I’ve developed a distinctive style of work that combines both traditional photography work and abstract painting. I currently work as a guest Q-club artist at the Quad Gallery in Derby working with children and young people with Autism by helping at different classes and art workshops.
