Pride Boxing - the official boxing event for Pride in London - is back for its third consecutive year and is now in search of the next roster of champions.
Following the success of previous years, London’s biggest LGBT+ boxing challenge has opened applications for the next season of amateur boxers to compete in this fundraising event.
People of all fitness levels are welcome to take on this challenge in aid of Pride in London.
Pride Boxing 2019 is a collaborative event organised by RJV Boxing, Durrants Gym, XclusiveTouch and Pride in London.
World Champion Kickboxer and renowned trainer Jon Durrant will coach participants. Jon has been turning novice boxers into industry standard competitors for over 10 years and has been heavily involved in successful events such as The Big Fight UK, Fight 4 Grenfell and Industry Boxing.
The 10-week training programme commences on Tuesday 30 April at Cobra Gym Queen in Victoria and Durrants Gym in Caledonian Road. All contenders will be pushed to their physical limits, ensuring they are in the best shape possible to go head-to-head with a fellow amateur boxer. Contestants can expect a variety of health and fitness benefits including stress relief, improved cardiovascular health, increased stamina and heightened confidence.
Once training is completed, contestants will compete against an evenly matched opponent at the grand finale at The Clapham Grand on Thursday 4th July.
Alex Talcer, Director of Fundraising at Pride in London, says: "Pride Boxing has now been running for three years, and last year our participants helped raise over £10,000. This incredible contribution is the kind of thing that keeps Pride in London and the Parade an event that is free and accessible for all - it's a vital part of the fundraising our community does! This year we hope to beat our 2018 target, and we are really looking forward to 2019 Pride Boxing - hoping it's bigger and better than ever. Looking forward to seeing as many as possible there, and if you're keen to get involved it is open to all - we'll be supporting you all the way to the July final!"
Robbie Cave, Co-Director of RJV Boxing and Promoter for Pride Boxing, added: “Pride Boxing 2019 will be bigger than ever and we can’t wait to work alongside Pride in London for a third year. The response and feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. We are hoping to not only exceed last year’s fundraising total, but want to create an incredible experience for our boxers and supporters.”
Pride Boxing 2018 was hosted by retired Professional Boxer and TV personality, Johnny “The Entertainer” Nelson. Since the event launched in 2017, Pride Boxing had seen over 100 participants and had raised over £15,000 for Pride in London.
This complete boxing experience gives participants the opportunity to choose their entrance music and ring name, in addition to being invited to walk in the official Pride in London parade on Saturday 6th July.
Pride Boxing is part of the Pride in London Festival, a month of more than 100 LGBT+ events across the capital kicking off on Saturday 8th June. To take part in Pride Boxing 2019, sign up before Tuesday 30 April by visiting www.prideboxing.co.uk.
