At Pride in London, we know the holiday season can be a difficult time for many in the LGBTQ+ community. Between unsupportive biological families and feelings of loneliness, Christmas can feel more "Blue Christmas" than "Jingle Bells" for some of us. But we believe that with some creativity and community, the holidays don't have to be that way.

We encourage our LGBTQ+ family to surround themselves with people who love and accept them during the holidays. Lean on your chosen family and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" - whether that's one close friend or a larger group that feels like home. If your biological relatives are unaccepting, don't feel obligated to spend time in an uncomfortable situation. Spend the holidays with your true family instead.

Chosen families allow us to redefine the holiday season on our own terms. We get to choose new traditions, values, and who to share this "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" with. This Christmas, we hope all LGBTQ+ people feel the warmth and comfort of a loving community, biological or chosen. The holidays are meant to be enjoyed, not endured.

If you're struggling this season, please don't bottle up your feelings - reach out. Contact a local LGBTQ+ organisation for support or confide in someone you trust. You deserve to feel happy and accepted, now and always.

Let's make this holiday season a joyful one, together.
